The Ark was a vessel constructed near the end of Nova Prime's reign. It's alleged purpose was for trade and exploration, when in truth Nova Prime intended to use it to carry out his planned conquest of the universe. However, the Ark did not make it far as it traversed into the Benzuli Expanse and ended up in the Dead Universe, where its crew became subjected to Unicron's darkness and brought into the Chaos Bringer's servitude. The vessel itself was torn down and used for parts to create the Heralds' army of Sweeps.
Immortalized in history as a vessel of legend, the Ark was retroactively renamed the Ark I when Nova's successor Optimus Prime constructed a new Ark to search for the AllSpark.

Dai Atlas was intended to serve on the vessel but lost his place to Cyclonus after he defied Nova Prime. Scourge's spot was originally offered to Straxus, who turned it down. Rung was also to serve on the ship but was recalled by the High Council at the last minute.
